If, When, Now

If there are poems that need to be written, I will hunt them down, I will raise them up, I will balance out their verses until the time when silence captures my rhythm completely.

If there are other actions that need to be taken, I will shut my damn mouth, I will open the floodgates, I will swim or sink or sail or drown.

If and when. Or now.

“Getting to Yes at All Costs” is a poem I wrote back in early 2015; it was published (and can be read here) by Sentinel Literary Quarterly this past summer.

In life, it is good to love your family, your friends, your tribe, your community, and your species. In order to love humanity, one must first learn to love their self. That’s the bottom line, and it’s worth more than any material wealth on earth. You’re welcome.

Social Media Observations:

Some people are cool. They post interesting comments. They have integrity.

Some people are fools. They have lost their damn minds, and they spew nothing but nonsense. Immoral Propagandist, be thy name.

It is good to observe your enemies, to learn from them, to grow, to evolve, to adapt. When they are defeated, it is good to drink from a chalice of their tears, and to weep with joy upon their bones.

It’s not that I have nothing left to lose, but that what I have to gain is too large of a risk not to take. Lord, please humble my ego, and grant me courage to jump.

What Else?

Eat, Drink, and Be Merry

We all sat around the fire,
feasting on flesh,
sipping glasses of blood,
watching the red sky fall,
as the world burned
all around us.
It was awesome.
It was brutal.
It was glorious.
It was over in a flash.

What I said. What was said. What was left unsaid. What…

I’ll be here/there focusing on the renaissance.
What else have I to do?

Consciousness is sovereign. It is the only way. It is the right way…

Flip the switch

on the sun

welcome to

entropy 101

where darkness

is the flavor of the month

and one taste

is never enough

Consumed

by the shadow’s mask

ever lurking

in the corners of the psyche

embrace

the kiss of the fall

before you walk

better learn how to crawl

“Happy Hour Hallelujah”

Seated (Visions of Verse)About the Author

Scott Thomas Outlar resides in the suburbs outside of Atlanta, Georgia where he spends the hours flowing and fluxing with the ever-changing currents of the Tao River while laughing at and/or weeping over life’s existential nature. He hosts the site 17Numa.wordpress.com where links to his published poetry, fiction, essays, and interviews can be found. His poem “Poetic Points” was nominated for Best of the Net by The Mind[less] Muse in 2015. Since beginning to submit his work in 2014, he has had more than 800…

Carve Some Karma with Your Turkey

I’m thankful for
my family and friends,
but even more
I’m thankful for
all those who screwed me over
because it made me
so much stronger
in the end.

Place Your Bottom Dollar

Poetry is a license
to lie

But if I ever said
what I truly feel
there would be war and hell, baby

Don’t ever doubt it
for a second

Poetry is a license
to burn
to raze the fields
to bury the dead

These poems are angsty, no doubt. Of course, balance is always best. So, for a happier holiday celebration of words, check out this declaration of thankfulness that appeared a couple years back at Dissident Voice: Happy Holy Days or a Little American Cheer from an Otherwise Incorrigible Grinch

The November issue of GloMag was released recently. My poem “Inheritance” can be read via this link. It was written about a hat. Also, life and death, etc.

Craving Karma’s Kiss

Twinkle, Twinkle

On a night so crisp
with the sky so clear

the stars shine bright
and for one moment it is enough

This is the point of the affair when I swear to God I’ll do my best. No success should ever satisfy. No failure should ever cause trouble. One step and then the next. It’s cradle to the grave. It’s all the time found in the space between.

If you will give me the vision, I will carry the water. If you will show me the path, I will crawl until I walk until I run until I get there.

Once upon a time is still waiting happily ever after in the future.

Being human is hard.
This is just a fact of life.
We all deal with it … with varying degrees of success.

Anything less than 100% is nothing more than slow suicide.

I will drink from the fountain of youth
until I finally find
all the innocence lost.

I will toast to the immortal gods
until I finally sneak
up the mountain in their midst.

The moon, the stars, the wind, the cold snap.
The light, the dreams, the smile, the next step.

My poem “The Distance between Us” was published in the Peeking Cat Poetry Magazine 2016 Anthology. I had an opportunity to read the piece recently at Shorter University, and a video is up now on The Southern Collective Experience’s YouTube channel.

Tabling Temptations

Come now and dance to the laughter of the moon.
Come now and sing honor unto the madness.
Come now and burn the forest to find a tree.

Come now and raise a glass to the gods.
Come now and turn tables completely over.
Come now and make sure the lesson gets learned.

Come now with promises that cannot be broken.
Come now with lies on the tip of your tongue.
Come now with feasts prepared by the flame.

Come now with sorrow flooding the streets.
Come now with weeping sounds of the night.
Come now with chaos tempting its wares.
