An excerpt from my most recent book released through CTU Publishing, Happy Hour Hallelujah…

Some people say

that the truth

is too hard to handle,

too hot to touch,

too explosive to get near…

but I say

that karma

without the truth

is too much to bear,

too heavy to carry,

and too much of a burden

to experience again

as the next cycle turns –

Two and One-Quarter Grains of Salt

It’s been fun spitting little sparks of fire this past year. But I’m at my best when vomiting an inferno.

In 2016, I grew soft and cautious.
I have no resolutions for 2017, only the promise to double down and play the bet.

There were high peak moments, there were lowly betrayals, and there was a middle path that I always sought to tread in 2016.

In 2017, A Black Wave Cometh.
To burn.

Let us not enter into temptation.
Unless it sounds really fun.

Songs of a Dissident

Songs of a Dissident Front

Bhaskaranand Jha Bhaskar wrote a review for Songs of a Dissident that appeared in Asian Signature. His analysis of my work is both humbling and motivational. His thoughts about the chapbook’s message, style, and significance can be read here.

Songs of a Dissident is available here through Transcendent Zero Press. Thank you to everyone who has helped support my efforts in life thus far, and thank you to anyone who decides to pick up a copy of the chapbook today/tonight. What time is it? Where are we? What happens next? I think we ought to dance.

Another in the Urn

Always a pleasure to have my work appear at Eunoia Review…

When the luster fades
there is less

Not every sterling piece of silver
remains pristine

Not every star in the sky
continues to shine

Most of these
slowly burn away

Urge Toward

What is old shall be made new again. And what is new shall never again grow old.

All I ever wanted was the Golden Age. Is that too much to ask? Because if not, I could urge toward even deeper states of evolution. Carnal or otherwise.

I have friends in both high and low places.

I have scores to settle that go back long before my birth.

Expectations Mounting

By the time I turned two,
the word terrible
was already chiseled
on my tombstone.

just a hint

Some people preach about peace, love, and forgiveness.
That’s cool…

but let’s have a little war, too.

Wait, is that the right thing to say?
Oh, well, whatever, anyways…

Happy Holidays!

and Merry Christmas!

Easy Answers

sharp suits
silver tongues
and celebrity idol
worship
bullshit

but I do it too…

so what’s the big deal?

Mad Swirl is good people, good poets, good vibe. They’ve been featuring holiday themed material this week as we careen toward Christmas. Meet the sun as a resurrecting solstice. The son of a fire in the sky. Embers and ash, clay and dust. “How Much Is That God in the Window?” is my response to the prompt. Thankful to contribute. Grateful to be alive. 2017 seems like the perfect time to thrive. Why not?

Time

Heals All Wounds

I want to write poems
about moments
that I can’t quite recall
because the flashes
of memories
that still remain
make it seem
like those
were the good old days

I rarely, if ever, asked questions in class.
I knew the answer would surface soon enough.

5,000 years later … (everything will make perfect sense)
As for now, get high on the blood of the future.

Sacrifices always have to be made;
though it needn’t be your soul that gets sold.
